Jutarnji list: SparkShare, sharing energy from Osijek
On 9 October 2025 Jutarnji list published the story "Over one lunch, friends from Osijek came up with a solution to the burning problem holding back electric cars". It is sponsored content created with KentBank for the Festival of Ideas, where SparkShare was among the top 5 finalists; we gave the interview after the finalists' workshop.
An idea born over lunch
Our director Kristina Dragušica Stojnović told how it all began: four electric car owners at a birthday lunch, and she could not charge at home because her driveway was being renovated, so she charged at a friend's. Someone said it would be great if there were a way to pay him back for that energy – and that is the idea SparkShare is built on.
Three problems, one network
The article lists the three problems of Croatian e-mobility that SparkShare addresses. The lack of infrastructure: instead of waiting for central investment, ordinary citizens become owners of chargers and let their neighbours in the building charge when they are not using them. Unfair prices at public charging stations. And regulatory barriers to selling electricity – which is why SparkShare is not selling electricity but sharing energy within a community (more on EV charging billing).
The charger owner receives WTC tokens; one token equals one kilowatt-hour. Because users give energy to the network in one place and take it in another, Kristina calls SparkShare "a digital or 'crypto' battery".
Chargers, Osijek and the next steps
The article presents the 3D-printed BOXEV for the home and the robust CUBE in an aluminium housing for public locations, with power up to 22 kW and load management. It also mentions our cooperation with FERIT, the charger in Štrigova that is full every weekend, and personalised chargers with the host's logo in a hotel complex in Istria.
"We see SparkShare as a way to democratise access to EV infrastructure and enable all citizens to become active participants in the energy transition, not just passive consumers," Kristina concludes.
